James Warlick: I hope meeting between Armenian and Azerbaijani presidents will be held in New York

September 12,2016 13:30

“There are some plans, but nothing is certain. We want the presidents [of Armenia and Azerbaijan] to meet again, but it’s not clear when and where it will happen,” OSCE Minsk Group U.S. Co-Chair, James Warlick said in an interview with Interfax .

He also noted that as co-chairs, they will meet with the foreign ministers to lay the groundwork for the next summit.

“We hope to see both foreign ministers in New York in two weeks to discuss the next steps with during the UN General Assembly. I would like to hope that a meeting between the two presidents will be held there too,” Warlick said.

He also expressed hope that the negotiations will lead to a peaceful settlement of the conflict. “That is why we want to hold another meeting of the presidents. We want to continue to work on these proposals in order to find common ground between the two presidents, and finally reach a peaceful settlement of the conflict.”

Answering the questions on what would be the perfect scenario of Karabakh conflict settlement for the United States, the Warlick said that just like for the Russian and French, an ideal setting for the U.S. would imply the absence of winners and losers. “Both sides should be satisfied. The negotiations are successful when both sides win.”
