Nikol Pashinyan also at fault for Electoral Code rejection: Daniel Ioannisyan

October 22,2018 20:33

The possibility of sabotage greatly increased when the elections were unexpectedly pushed to December. Secretary of the prime minister’s committee for changes in the Electoral Code Daniel Ioannisyan is convinced that not only are the RPA, Prosperous Armenia, and ARF to blame for the rejection of the draft of the Electoral Code, but the current government is too.

“Nikol Pashinyan in particular increased the possibility for sabotage through unexpectedly pushing the snap parliamentary elections to December. Changing the Electoral Code prior to the elections was a promise that Nikol Pashinyan had made, and the election process could not begin without changing the code. We would have had the possibility of public pressure against the National Assembly if such sabotage took place,” expressed Daniel Ioannisyan.

He hopes that it is possible to salvage the situation and change the code.

Ioannisyan thinks that the RPA’s boycott was a form of intentionally hurting the state. “We lost a better environment for holding elections. We could have had an opportunity to hear many more opinions in the future parliament. If the entirety of Prosperous Armenia and ARF voted, the draft would have been accepted. I don’t understand why they didn’t vote.”
