January 17,2019 17:38

Candidate for the head of the Committee on Defense and Security Andranik Kocharyan was asked by Bright Armenia head Edmon Marukyan, “The Armed Forces is under the control of civilians, and under the government’s structure, is also under the parliament’s control. What do you think about the National Security Service and police becoming integrated in the parliament, much like a ministry? Robert Kocharyan also took the NSS and police out of the government’s structure so that they will avoid being under the parliament’s control.”

Andranik Kocharyan responded that Robert Kocharyan did that after October 27th, and fired Vagharshak Harutyunyan for violating the Constitution. Therefore, Robert Kocharyan’s professionalism as someone who violated the Constitution is not a topic for discussion. Andranik Kocharyan was not against the NSS and police changing and becoming more controllable. He said that problems that existed in the past need to be solved that haven’t been solved yet. That is why Armenia was an authoritarian state. “Now that we are in a new Armenia, and those changes took place, we need to give proper evaluations and organize everything correctly so that we can work effectively.”
