The Chairman of the State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition, Gegham Gevorgyan, told reporters in parliament that investigations in the masks, gloves, and hand sanitizer markets continue.
There are already cases filed in the latex gloves market due to people who are taking advantage of their positions. “In any case, there have been no cases of masks being imported for 20 AMD and sold for 200 AMD. Taking into consideration the deficiency in masks throughout the world, Armenia has imported masks for ten times the price, which is the case everywhere else. I have spoken to Russia and to the other EAEU member states and the situation is the same there. Plus, the price of masks in Armenia has decreased significantly because we initiated several measures. We saw that people were selling masks in vending machines in the metro for 200 AMD a pair. One mask cost 100 AMD.”
Gegham Manukyan assured that, if the investigation proves that business owners have taken advantage of their position due to the current situation, they will be held responsible.
At the moment, there have been cases filed in the olive oil, chicken drumsticks, and sugar markets. The opposite trend was taking place there; the price of these items had significantly decreased to the point where it became suspicious.
