November 30,2022 13:05

The Board of Governors of the UWC Dilijan is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Adam Armanski as Head of College and Director of DISA (Dilijan International School of Armenia) Foundation, effective 1 August 2023.

Mr. Armanski, who is Polish, will be succeeding Mr. Gabriel Ernesto Abad Fernández after his distinguished and successful five-year tenure at UWC Dilijan, made especially challenging by the pandemic and complex geopolitical situation in the region.

“UWC Dilijan has benefited greatly from Gabriel’s leadership, with the school achieving recognition as a high-standards academic institution despite the global and regional challenges of the last few years,” said Veronika Zonabend, Co-Founder and Chair of the Board of Governors of the UWC Dilijan.

“Though those challenges are still there, as a community working together, we have learnt how to navigate them and have shown resilience. In its eighth year, UWC Dilijan is ready to move to the next phase of development, capitalising on our strengths in building the school ethos as a real partnership of students, staff, alumni, parents, supporters, and the Board. Adam will start his tenure at an exciting time for UWC Dilijan as it embarks on reaching an important milestone – the 10th anniversary – and I am confident that he has the experience to lead us into the second decade,” Ms. Zonabend added.

Adam is the founding Head of School at Gjøvikregionen International School (GIS), Norway, where he has been at the helm for eight years since its establishment. He previously taught at schools in China, Kazakhstan, Poland, Switzerland, and Turkey. With over two decades’ experience as International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP) coordinator, Adam has been actively involved with the work of the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO). His educational career has been in IB World Schools all along, GIS being his sixth.

Adam holds a bachelor’s degree in teaching English and a master’s degree in American literature. Apart from his teaching qualifications, he studied art history. He speaks Polish, English, German and Russian.

Adam will move to Dilijan with his partner, Agata, and 15-year-old son Maciej.

“It is an exciting opportunity for me to take over the leadership mantle of UWC Dilijan. I look forward to working with the school’s dedicated board and staff to further strengthen the school’s position as a hub for developing the educational landscape in Armenia and beyond. And my family and I look forward to learning more about the country and getting to know its friendly and hospitable people,” said Mr. Armanski.
