The Eurasia Partnership Foundation organised a media awards ceremony to celebrate the work of the media and journalists who cover the situation of minorities.
The EU ambassador to Armenia said: “A free press is the backbone of democracy. But a fair press, which represents every citizen equally, is the soul of democracy. Our partnership with Armenia is based on shared values: human dignity, the rule of law and fundamental freedoms. This includes unwavering support for minority rights. Congratulations to Shushane Sakunts who was awarded first prize for her powerful and compassionate coverage of the human rights of the Yezidis in Armenia. Your work shines a light on stories that are too often ignored and gives a voice to a resilient community through respectful and thoughtful journalism. The stories we tell today shape the freedoms we will experience tomorrow. Thank you for telling the stories that matter.”
