RA NA President Alen Simonyan’s message on Republic Day
Dear compatriots,
I congratulate all of us on Republic Day.
On May 28, 1918, after the heroic battles of Sardarapat, Bash-Aparan, and Gharakilisa, the Armenian statehood that had been disrupted for centuries was restored. The Armenian people, experiencing one of the most difficult periods in their history, were able to unite around the noble idea of having a state, believe in their strength, and stand up, creating an independent republic. Although the First Republic of Armenia lasted only two and a half years, it was a turning point in terms of our national thinking, as we once again transformed from a nation that had been stateless for centuries into a state-built people.
Dear compatriots, now we are facing the fulfillment of a historical mission.

We have begun and continue to build a state where peace that was once only spoken about in toasts has turned into real and visible peace.
A state, to which the sovereign, free and independent formulations given are no longer just constitutional provisions.
A state, where democracy and the protection of human rights are not just calls, but clearly adopted policy guidelines, when the citizen can have his direct participation in the development and establishment of the state.
And, of course, a state that has gained international prestige, enjoying the respect and appreciation of the leaders of different countries and international partners.
Glory to the martyrs and happy Republic Day, citizens of the free, independent and sovereign Republic of Armenia.
