Paruyr Hovhannisyan reaffirmed Armenia’s commitment to advancing the global mountain agenda
The Armenian delegation is actively participating in the 2026 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF), convened under the auspices of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
During the first week of the Forum, Ambassador Paruyr Hovhannisyan, Permanent Representative of Armenia to the United Nations, chaired discussions on Clean Energy, Sustainable Communities, and Small Island Developing States (SIDS), as well as several Voluntary National Reviews.
Ambassador Hovhannisyan also participated as a panelist in the discussion on Accelerating SDG Achievement in Middle-Income Countries (MICs), where he underscored the importance of country-driven development and nationally owned priorities as the foundation of the future Strategic Plan of Action for MICs.

At the HLPF side event “Accelerating Action for Mountain Regions: Delivering on the Five Years of Action (2023–2027),” he highlighted the need to strengthen synergies across the Rio Conventions and reaffirmed Armenia’s commitment, as the incoming Presidency of CBD COP17, to advancing the global mountain agenda through practical, integrated approaches to biodiversity, climate action and sustainable land management.
The Forum will continue next week with the Ministerial Segment, bringing together senior government representatives to review progress on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.
