STATEMENT OF THE NK COMMITTEE FOR THE DEFENSE OF FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS OF THE PEOPLE ՕF ARTSAKH
On the 35th Anniversary of the Proclamation of the Republic of Artsakh

Today marks the 35th anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Artsakh. On September 2, 1991, the people of Artsakh made a historic, democratic choice to live in freedom, security, and dignity. For over three decades, they built a vibrant society, established democratic institutions, and preserved their ancient heritage in their ancestral homeland. This anniversary is not merely a date in the past; it remains a powerful testament to a people’s enduring right to determine their own future.
Tragically, the people of Artsakh mark this day in exile, forcibly displaced from the homes their ancestors built. Yet, physical absence does not erase historical truth, and forced displacement does not extinguish fundamental human rights. The current uprooting of the Artsakh people must not be used to normalize their exclusion or strip them of their collective identity. The right to a safe, dignified, and collective return is a matter of international law and human justice that does not expire with the passage of time.

Exile cannot be the final chapter of the history of Artsakh. The NK Committee for the Defense of Fundamental Rights unequivocally reaffirms that the question of Artsakh is not closed. We call upon the international community to recognize that lasting peace cannot be built upon the permanent displacement of an indigenous people. Honoring the profound sacrifices of the past, we will relentlessly continue to advocate and fight for the undeniable right of the Artsakh people to return to their rightful homeland in security and dignity.
