There is no “Caucasian Albanian” or non-Armenian component in Dadivank and Gandzasar monasteries, ranging from the architectural design of the buildings to the sculptures, khachkars (cross-stones), and frescoes. Apart from more than 200 Armenian inscriptions dating back to the 12th-17th centuries in Dadivank and Gandzasar, there is not even a single letter in any other language. Prince Hasan Jalal Dawla of Khachen, the builder of the Holy John the Baptist Church of Gandzasar, and his descendants, like the entire population of Artsakh, were Armenian. They spoke and wrote in Armenian and only in Armenian. What Hikmet Hajiyev is doing in front of European diplomats is ordinary prestidigitation, lies, and falsification. It is yet another manifestation of Azerbaijan’s anti-Armenian policy, an act of seizing cultural heritage from its creators and their descendants through force and cunning.
