Armenia: National Church leadership hails CSI’s courageous advocacy
The leadership of the 1,700-year-old Armenian Apostolic Holy Church has sent an official letter conveying profound gratitude to Christian Solidarity International for defending the institution’s guaranteed autonomy against a severe, state-sponsored pressure campaign.
Writing on behalf of Karekin II, Catholicos of All Armenians, Archbishop Nathan Hovhannisian praised CSI’s public rejection of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s recent defamatory report, which aims to strip the Church of its self-governance.
Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin specifically hailed CSI’s landmark investigative report, “A Church Under Siege: Armenia’s Unlawful Campaign to Silence the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church,” as a vital reminder that religious freedom is a matter of fundamental human rights and the rule of law.

The Archbishop also thanked CSI for refusing to let the international community ignore the plight of the 120,000 displaced Christians who were ethnically cleansed from Nagorno Karabakh/Artsakh in 2023.
In his response, CSI President John Eibner pledged that CSI will continue its legacy of standing with the Armenian Church, reminding supporters that “when one part of the body of Christ suffers, all the parts suffer with it.”
