Four women and two men were killed in the shooting in Krakow’s Main Market Square, according to local police, BBC reports. At least 15 people are injured, officials in the Lesser Poland region say, adding that they are “receiving medical care at hospitals in Kraków” and that Governor Krzysztof Jan Klęczar is visiting the scene.
The Polish interior minister earlier confirmed two police officers had been injured, with one undergoing surgery.
At around 15:00 local time (14:00 GMT) a man drove into the square and began shooting “at random” from his car.
The perpetrator was shot by police and is being transported to hospital.
