Davit Harutyunyan Met With the President of the PACE in Strasburg

June 28,2012 13:07

Davit Harutyunyan, the head of the National Assembly state and legal issues commission and the head of the Armenian delegation to Strasburg, met with Jean-Claude Mignon, the President of the PACE. The PACE President himself stated during a press conference convened on the day when the PACE summer session commenced that such a meeting and also one with the Azerbaijani delegation would take place. Davit Harutyunyan said during a conversation with www.aravot.am that Jean-Claude Mignon had met with him and with Samad Seyidov, the head of the Azerbaijani delegation, separately. “The main topic of the discussion was what steps we thought could be taken, what could we done in the framework of Resolution 1416 adopted by the PACE to generally improve the atmosphere. I presented our position, which, I don’t think substantially differs from the previous approaches. There is no essential difference between them. It will not be right to talk about the details, taking into consideration the fact that it was a bilateral, separate working meeting.”

Let us remind that Resolution 1416 mentioned by the head of the Armenian delegation also concerns the establishment of a sub-commission on the Nagorno-Karabakh issue, the fate of which is still indefinite.

Davit Harutyunyan didn’t rule out the possibility that at a certain point in time there might be a meeting of the heads of the two delegations – Armenian and Azerbaijani – adding, “I think that such a meeting is planned for a certain point, but I am not sure whether it will be during this or the next session, because I think that the two sides have put forward their positions and some time will be needed to analyze all that and to draw certain conclusions.”
