An Observer Hit a Heritage Party Member With a Record Book and Injured Her Face

May 05,2013 17:00

There was a smell of heart drops in no. 3/19 polling place. A few hours ago, there was a clash in the polling place. A Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) member of the commission found out that 4 people who were not residents of Kanaker-Zeytun had tried to vote there. When Mariam Karapetyan, a member of the Heritage Party and the secretary of the commission, took their passports, Sargis Maghdesyan, an observer of the Economy and Social Rights center, approached her and hit the woman on the face with the secretary’s record book.

When we arrived, the signs of a blow were still visible on the woman’s face. The woman was in such a mental state that she didn’t want to talk and comment on the incident. She asked to understand her and feel for her as a woman and not ask questions. She just said that she hadn’t been intimidated and would not be afraid, if everything was investigated. Karen Baghoyan, the chairman of the commission, also told about the incident during a conversation with us and said that a record had been made; four members had signed the record. The member of the commission was not there when the blow was struck; he heard noise in the polling place, ran and realizing what had happened, threw the observer out of the polling place.
