“Our country will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.” It seems that it was a quote by a politician of a small country, like Armenia. However, you’ll probably be surprised if I say that the author of the words is Abraham Lincoln. The idea, therefore, is universal and applicable to all times and for all (any size) states.
Today, when the political forces in Armenia are enthusiastically fighting over who is going to be more bold and faithful flagman of the Customs Union, it would be better to remember the above said simple idea, which was repeated by sober thinkers of different nations, including Armenians, for example, Garegin Nzhdeh. Not going too far, let’s bring the example of 4 countries of the Eastern Partnership known to everyone. (Two of them: Belarus and Azerbaijan “are not counted”, the societies and regimes are very specific there).
And so, Ukraine, Armenia, Georgia, and Moldova. Where is the situation relatively stable and where is it more explosive? It seems that the two countries’ leaders have done what Russia has demanded, and everything should be quiet in our country. Anyway, the situation is the opposite, the very Ukraine and smaller in size, Armenia, have become a stage of the clash of opposing forces. Let the political analysts explain why, however, the result is obvious.
It seems to me that the EU Association Agreement was necessary to be signed. Similar agreements must be achieved with the Customs Union member states, as well as many other countries, particularly Iran and China. And vice versa, I think, as a member, we have nothing to do with the Customs Union and the European Union (where, it is true, no one expects us) as a member, we have a deal. If one believes that “we were distributed pilaf” in the EU, is sadly mistaken. The right thing is not to enter into any alliance, including the CSTO and NATO. No one will eat us, these are fairy tales. Unless, of course, we do not eat ourselves.

And, most importantly, our economic situation is much less due to the fact of which Union we join. The economic situation in our case is due to the political regime in Armenia, due to what extent we are free. There is no need to discover America here, it has long been discovered.
“A government big enough to give you everything you want, is a government big enough to take away everything that you have. When the people fear the government there is tyranny, when the government fears the people there is liberty.” This is also a quote by Thomas Jefferson.
