PRESS RELEASE OF THE JEWISH COMMUNITY OF MILAN ON SOLIDARITY TO OUR BROTHERS ARMENIANS
The Jewish community of Milan expressed their closeness, friendship and solidarity with the Armenian friends of Milan and Italy, of Armenia and Naghorno-Karabakh. We denounce the aggressive and premeditated actions of Azerbaijan along the line of contact with Nagorno Karabakh, small Armenian enclave, against the areas inhabited by civilians and peaceful population.
No one better than the people of Israel understands what it means to be victims of persecutions and genocides, as well as being constantly exposed to aggressive hostility. No one better than us understands what it means to try to exist – as a minority – beside openly hostile majorities or to be silent and submissive.
We firmly confirm what has been written long ago by Rabbi Giuseppe Laras concerning the Armenian genocide and the Holocaust: “We will be credible when we will clearly stand by a free, secure and sovereign Armenia, as we do for a State of Israel equally free to exist in security and peace”.
So, we express our full solidarity to the great Armenian people, in Diaspora, in the land of Armenia and Naghorno-Karabakh, especially in these dramatic hours. Let God be guardian of the Armenian brothers and of peace among all peoples.
