‘I struggled, as much as I could:’ former Defense Minister on looting in the army

January 10,2017 10:24

In recent years, there is a lack of trust towards the army. There are numerous publications about the cases of looting in the army, the private residential houses of the generals and the high-ranking officials of the Armed Forces and the accumulated wealth.

Aravot.am asked former Defense Minister Vagharshak Harutyunyan to assess this situation for a country in a war like ours: Deputy of National Asambly Seyran Saroyan says that the looters of the army will not remain unpunished, so whether we must rely our hope on it that one-day God will punish them.

Vagharshak Harutyunyan replied, “The army is an established structure with its drawbacks. There are problems that must be resolved. But the army is established and we must not lose the trust towards our army.” As to how Mr. Harutyunyan has struggled against all this during his term in the office of a Minister, he replied that there were drawbacks during his term too, “I have struggled, as much as I could.”
