Foreign Minister of Armenia met with the Director General of UNESCO

Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian, who is in Paris on a visit, met with Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO.

Minister Nalbandian congratulated Director General of UNESCO on her appointment. Foreign Minister of Armenia emphasized that a skillful management of UNESCO could be of vital importance for the implementation of main goals of the Organization.

Thanking for congratulations, Audrey Azoulay attached an importance to the active involvement of Armenia in the work of UNESCO.

The interlocutors discussed issues related to the cooperation between UNESCO and Armenia, various areas of activity of the Organization, and exchanged views on the main objectives of UNESCO, particularly, with regards to implementing joint programmes in the field of science, education and culture, as well as the preservation of cultural heritage.

During the talks of the Foreign Minister of Armenia and the Director General of UNESCO it was noted that the unnecessary politicization of the organization does not serve the interests of effective cooperation within the framework of the structure.

At the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the preparatory works for the summit of La Francophonie to be held in Yerevan in 2018, the implementation of UNESCO and OIF joint projects. In this context, Audrey Azoulay highly appreciated the selection of the theme of the Yerevan summit and the main topics of discussion.
