Former Armenian minister of justice doubts on Special Investigation Service’s statement on March 1 case

“The Constitutional Court has issued a verdict. I assure, you will not find any democratic state where any structure will appeal the verdict of the CC,” said the former minister of justice of Armenia, member of the Republican Party of Armenia, Davit Harutyunyan, referring to the press statement of the Special Investigation Service on March 1 case, holding that election frauds were found out connected with 2008 presidential elections. David Harutyunyan speaks of the verdict of the Constitutional Court upon which the results of the elections of March, 2008, remained in force (Levon Ter-Petrossian had appealed to the CC against them).

Davit Harutyunyan firstly mentioned: “If the statement of the Special Investigation Service is official indeed, it means to appeal the Constitutional Act already in force. I think no one would afford a similar thing.”
He added that some formulations of the SIS are not legal: “I do not have anything else to say.”

Asked when it was possible to technically organize extraordinary parliamentary elections eventually, Davit Harutyunyan replied that holding elections in haste would not be right.

“All political forces should agree. I do not see that the political situation is in a crisis currently, that is why I find that the objective of all political forces is to hold proper elections. And for that a consensus is required and a development of a package of amendments to the Electoral Code. I believe we are going to have a consensual Electoral Code, although a committee adjunct to the PM on the issue of the Electoral Code also works,” he concluded.
