ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE EXECUTIVE BOARD OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY OF ARMENIA
The Republican Party of Armenia expresses its deep concern over the criminal case and petition for detention filed against the second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan.
The accusation seems to be a political persecution, and it is absurd from the legal point of view. We consider the current situation to be a threat to Armenia’s democratic development and to the processes of building a legal state. The criminal case initiated based on political motives and the accusation put the constitutionality of the Republic of Armenia into a risk.
We consider charging the former Supreme Commander-in-Chief, who has shown unshakable perseverance in the Artsakh issue, and has played one of the key roles in the Artsakh victory, with fake and illegal accusations as an attempt to silence the opponents of possible developments that are fundamentally different from the approaches that have been there over the Artsakh issue for many years.
We consider the current situation to be a threat to Armenia’s democratic development and to the processes of building a legal state.
