The President regarding the first personal computer brought to Armenia

September 08,2018 14:40

President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian recently visited the photo editing PicsArt Armenian organization’s headquarters. He answered a few questions from reporters.

– Can you find the time to play with these sorts of apps as young people like to do?

“What, aren’t I young?” the president said, smiling.

– Well, adults typically tell us young people that we’re obsessed with meaningless apps.

– I think that’s a question of the difference in the older and younger generations’ time, lifestyles, and tastes. When I was 20 years old, some young people grew their hair out very long during the Soviet Union as a symbol of protest. Or, 20 female students from Yerevan State University came to class wearing short skirts as an act of protest… one year later, the same girls did the same protest wearing long skirts, then wearing pants. There were revolutionaries in the 1970s too, it’s not just now that we have them.

– Do you have similar apps on your phone?

– Of course… I used to be a computer programmer and I invented some computer games. But I don’t use Facebook. If you want me to open a page, I will, but I can’t do that if I won’t have time to use it… Creating computer games was a hobby for us, but we didn’t have the technology we do today. In 1985, when I came here from Great Britain, I brought my personal computer, which was the first one in all of Armenia. Even the prime minister at the time- Fadei Sargsyan- would come to our house to see this miracle.
