Has carrying out investigative mechanisms been pushed aside? Anna Naghdalyan’s explanation

February 05,2019 17:34

“What is of utmost importance to us in this process is not the name of the plan, but the way the plan to decrease tensions will be carried out,” Spokeswoman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Anna Naghdalyan told reporters in response to the observation that the agreements made in Vienna and St. Petersburg seemed to have been pushed to the side, as well as in response to the question of whether carrying out investigative mechanisms has been pushed to the side.

She said that what is more important is figuring out what works and what doesn’t, rather than what the plan will be named. She said that Armenia will not reject carrying out any actions that will promote a decrease in tension and risks.

Regarding having the people prepare for peace, the spokeswoman said, “This is the element that has been taken advantage of the most. The peace process has been enshrined by the co-chairs’ statements since 2006. The other side also speaks about that, saying that people need to be prepared for peace, not for war. This element was also enshrined after the sides participating in the meeting in Paris made their statement. This is a unique case that is enshrined by all sides. Armenia has always been the one who encouraged this, and it is surprising how much this has spread.”

Naghdalyan was also asked about how the Israeli Aeronautics Defense Systems company has again sold Azerbaijan unmanned aerial vehicles, despite the fact that Israeli law enforcement has begun an investigation against this organization. She was asked what steps the MFA has initiated in that direction. “The arms race in this region has always been high on our agenda, and we have always spoken about this issue during all types of meetings. This case will be no exception. We simply need to emphasize and repeat to our international colleagues that the arms race in this region is very dangerous.”
