“In Zakir Hasanov’s threatening statement, he essentially confessed that the April War of 2016 was unleashed by Azerbaijan,” My Step faction deputy Lilit Makunts said during a parliamentary session regarding a statement made by the Minister of Defense of Azerbaijan, Zakir Hasanov, about how Azerbaijan was unable to carry out its duties during the April War.
“Just as in the 1990s and in 2016, our response to any form of Azeri aggression will be more appropriate and powerful. We will not stand back from our right to live regardless of our political party affiliation. Our most important issue is to call upon the international community to pay attention to such statements because Azerbaijan continues to violate one of the most important principles of the Minsk Group, which is to eliminate the use or threat of force,” Makunts said.
Regarding the fact that President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev had also made a statement prior to Hasanov’s in which he said, “the use of force is most important in the world,” Lilit Makunts emphasized that the international community and peace agencies should not act with indifference towards Aliyev’s statement because indifference could give Aliyev the freedom to do as he wants and cause a new escalation of the conflict. And since that will warrant a powerful response, it will cause horrible consequences for Azerbaijan.
