On July 14, the Azerbaijani armed forces instigated a provocative action in adjacent territories of Yeraskh settlement of the Republic of Armenia, as a result of which Samvel Gagik Alaverdyan, a contract serviceman of the armed forces of the Republic of Armenia, was fatally shot by a sniper. We express our deep condolences and support to the family members and relatives of the killed soldier.
These provocative actions occurred after the infiltration of the Azerbaijani armed forces into the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia in Syunik and Gegharkunik regions, clearly demonstrate that official Baku is trying to create new areas of tension undermining regional peace and security.
We strongly condemn this encroachment against the Republic of Armenia, which is also a gross violation of the fundamental principles of international law.
Such steps undertaken by the military-political leadership of Azerbaijan may further escalate the situation, henceforth the Azerbaijani authorities bear full responsibility for the consequences.
