At the meeting with the representatives of the Armenian community in Vladivostok, one of the citizens asked the Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan whether the unblocking of the transport channels between Armenia and Azerbaijan poses any danger to the Syunik region. Pashinyan replied that the opening of the road cannot create a danger for Armenia and Syunik.
“On the contrary, it will bring additional guarantees of security and stability. Another thing is that there are expressions in Azerbaijani speech that reveal certain dangers. They are talking about the corridor. We will not give anyone a corridor through the territory of Armenia. But we will give a road, and we will open at any time. We have sent proposals. As soon as Azerbaijan accepts them, we can sign a document. I assure you that it is not a threat, but useful. It is also useful for Azerbaijan and Turkey.” Pashinyan added, “There is a threat in something else, in matters related to demarcation and delimitation.
When Azerbaijan uses the term “Eastern Zangezur,” at the same time it says on international platforms that it does not have any demands from Armenia, but it is clear that it means that there is also “Western Zangezur.” Underneath all this there are hidden aspirations. Regarding the issues of demarcation, the opinions differ as to which maps it should be based on. We say that it should be based on legally valid documents. The map is a picture on which there should be decisions with legal force.”
According to Pashinyan, Azerbaijan’s claims that Zangezur was given to Armenia in such and such a year are destructive, but reveal the ambitions. “What shall we do? Let’s move forward and be able to find a solution for delimitation, for the NK problem.”
