Despite Azerbaijan’s attack on the city of Jermuk in Vayots Dzor, shops were open in the city. In one of those shops, we met Vigen Avagyan, whose family owns the shop.
“It was after 12:00 on the 13th of the month, the bombing started. I cannot say the exact location, but the voices were very loud, the child got up, my wife got up. My little one is 1.5 years old, they got up and were in a panic. I went out, saw what was happening, that is, the people were mixed up, we called everyone to get down to the basements, the shelling continued. I was looking out the window, and that mountain can be seen from my house. It was visible from that place, then there was a short pause, I was looking at the mountain, there were only flames rising, no sound was heard, then another shelling, and it continued like that,” Vigen remembers the attack from Azerbaijan.
When asked if he is not afraid to stay in Jermuk, he answered, “It’s your house, it’s your place, where should you go? Shall we go later? If they enter Jermuk, Jermuk will disappear along with Armenia. We just have to be united. People should come and live. If the back is strong, then the back will be strong.” In the morning, the store continued to work. We asked about the number of customers.
“Young people went to the positions. Women and children went to the basement, as well as older people. They are coming little by little. The store continues to receive goods. Bread is not baked on site, because there was no gas in the city, but we hope that the situation will change soon.” When asked whether he is afraid that a new war will start, Vigen answered: “We are not afraid, but we are ready. We have no other choice. A normal person should have fear, but you must be prepared.”
