At the ECOSOC Humanitarian Affairs Segment, H.E. Mr. Paruyr Hovhannisyan, Permanent Representative of Armenia to the United Nations, reaffirmed Armenia’s commitment to global efforts to strengthen the effectiveness of humanitarian action and ensuring protection for all those affected by crises.
He underscored the importance of full respect for international humanitarian law and humanitarian principles, expressing concern over attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure, the denial of humanitarian assistance, and restrictions on access for international humanitarian organisations, including the International Committee of the Red Cross.
Drawing on Armenia’s experience in addressing regional humanitarian challenges, Ambassador Hovhannisyan stressed that humanitarian action must be accompanied by sustained efforts to promote recovery, build resilience, and foster inclusion. Referring to Armenia’s response to the large-scale influx of refugees, he emphasized the importance of durable solutions that support both refugees and host communities. He also highlighted programmes implemented by the Government of Armenia, in cooperation with United Nations agencies, to support the protection of refugees and their long-term integration.
