At the joint meeting of ECOSOC and the Peacebuilding Commission on “From Risk to Resilience: Advancing Social Cohesion Through Job Creation in Peacebuilding Contexts”, Ambassador Paruyr Hovhannisyan, Permanent Representative of Armenia to the UN, emphasized that job creation should be viewed not only as an economic objective, but also as an investment in prevention, recovery and sustaining peace.
Drawing on Armenia’s experience, he highlighted targeted employment and self-employment programmes for displaced persons, with more than 20,000 currently engaged in formal employment, supporting both livelihoods and social inclusion.
Ambassador Hovhannisyan also underscored the importance of strengthening cooperation between ECOSOC and the Peacebuilding Commission, as well as partnerships among governments, international financial institutions, the United Nations system and local stakeholders to advance inclusive development and social cohesion.
