April 16,2007 00:00

The journalist was about bringing to the police station for asking the Prime Minister about the possible resignation of the RA chief of police.

PM Serge Sargsyan visited yesterday the Police Station of Arabkir. The occasion was the presentation of technical assistance for the registration system of election list as well as for improving the governance of elections through “International foundation of electoral system” Armenian office. Within the framework of this assistance 45 computers will be given to refresh the register of constituency and correspond the works with the international standards. Serge Sargsyan told the journalists that the assistance was very important: “I think that together with the good law and political will the technical provision of elections is of great importance. I’m glad that a long range of this kind of events is provided, which will give an opportunity to improve the technical base of the elections”.

Then all questions addressed to him were about campaign. Answering the question whether it wasn’t strange that the RPA leader  was actively engaged in the campaign, Serge Sargsyan told: “No, I don’t consider it strange. I think, you’ll be sure that this style of working will be continuative. I won’t be actively engaged in the campaign, I will simply try to being introduced to the problems of our citizens visiting the regions and villages during this month. This is a new sphere for me and I think that I’ll replace the MOD’s spectacles with the PM’s one during this month. I don’t want to boast but I know the republic very well and I’ll try to participate in the campaign with my approaches and my attitudes towards the work”.

In answer to the question which will be the RPA’s main pre-electoral strategy, Serge Sargsyan told: “Our party, which has been in the authority for   7 years and formed  the government, mustn’t have a special pre-electoral strategy. RPA strategy is to give account about its activities, and produce his standpoints for solving the problems. And we’ll do so.”

In answer to “Aravot’s” question that “ Shots, fires and explosions led the campaign during the last week. Will these be continued or do the authorities have still sources to prevent such incidents?” the PM said: “I won’t give such a remark or if I give, I’ll have some exceptions. As the shots aren’t obligatory connected with the pre-electoral process as nobody has proves yet. Our law enforcement agencies, authorities have enough resources to prevent destabilization. There are criminals in every country and society and crimes are committed. The important thing is to detect the crimes and punish the criminals”.

“Lragir’s” correspondent noted that several persons usually send in their resignations after these incidents and asked whether the staff changes were expected in the Police: “I don’t welcome resignations, – the PM answered. –I think that resignation is a political category, and policemen must never carry out policy.” We should notice that RA chief of police Hayk Harutiunyan were standing behind Serge Sargsyan. His bodyguards demanded the documents of “Lragir’s” correspondent.
