About 10 political forces, which have expressed their standpoint on necessity of Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s nomination in the forthcoming presidential elections and which don’t find any alternative to his candidacy gathered in “Armenia Marriott” Hotel. There were individual politicians and several public organizations as well. According to our information, the former head of youth wing of “New Times” Party and NA former parliamentarian and Communist Party member Khoren Trchunich were participating in that meeting. The participants ( Levon Ter-Petrosyan hasn’t participated) have discussed and agreed on practical steps to support First President’s nomination. It is expected that a smaller working group will coordinate further activities of Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s supporters and public organizations, since Mr. Ter-Petrosyan will be nominated not by a certain party but by civil initiatives.
Gurgen Egiazaryan, one of the participants of the meeting said that the meeting was held in constructive atmosphere: “I think that such meetings will be held more frequently. The conclusion of the meeting was the conviction that Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s nomination and victory is the first and last guarantee for our country to come out from the current nightmare”. G. Eghiazaryan also noted that Levon Ter-Petrosyan held the post of the RA First president when “the north of the country was being destroyed by earthquake, and the south was being destroyed by the war”. In his opinion: “The First President managed to take first steps to recover the country, which was successfully used by the ruling clique to rob the country”.
Lawyer Vardan Harutiunyan was also present in the meeting. In his words: “not only those people who worry about the future of the country had gathered in that meeting but also those who know what they should do to prevent the final destruction of our country. They also are sure that Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s candidacy and his victory is the only way to prevent reproduction of the current antidemocratic authorities. The unification of those forces will be a unification of anxious people. Decisions haven’t been made during the meeting; it has been spoken about the future activities. But clear steps will be taken in the near future”.
