LTP’s FIGURE MAY INSPIRE HOPE

Armen Aghayan, the member of “Unification of Armenian Volunteers” initiative says.

– Whether Zhirayr Seifilian’s open letter addressed to former Foreign Minister Alexander Arzumanyan and published in our newspaper has been agreed with your organization or whether it is his personal opinion? It seems that it is not his handwriting.

– Undoubtedly the author of the open letter is Zhirayr Seifilian. Perhaps you cast doubt on two things: that Seyfilian gave a quick respond to A. Arzumanyan’s letter and that the letter has been written by Vardan Malkhasyan who is imprisoned together with Zhirayr Seifilian.

– Your position in NK conflict is known, you have criticized both the former and current authorities. Is it normal that Zhirayr is backing one of them?

– Undoubtedly Zh. Seifilian and his supporters will remain fundamental oppositionists in case of Ter-Petrosyan’s or Serge Sargsyan’s victory. But since the policy is carried out in non-ideological field, people try to get rid of “criminal regime, so there is nothing surprising that Zhirayr welcomes the struggle against the current regime and political developments which inspire hope. First President’s figure may inspire hope among the opposition electorate, and we should admit that Levon Ter-Petrosyan is very skillful in it.

– It is known that Levon Ter-Petrosyan has always been for the NK conflict “phase” settlement, and he will carry out the same policy in case he is elected.

– Nobody will be able to yield any territory during the negotiations neither “phase” nor “package” negotiations. It is possible only in case of defeat in the war. We struggle against all defeating demonstrations, because it raises the possibility of war. Ter-Petrosyan held an open conversation about the concessions and gave in his resignation as a result. Levon Ter-Petrosyan declared after his return that he had no solution in NK conflict adding that no solution is possible without the Artsakh population. But Serge Sargsyan has never been for any open conversation. It is meaningless to speak about his resignation. He has always been a false hero in speaking of any territorial concession. I can continue comparing but   I don’t interfere into the pre-electoral campaign.

– But Zhirayr interferes. Does everybody in your organization agree with it?

– If I don’t interfere into the campaign, it doesn’t mean that I don’t want Zhirayr to do it. The opinions of our supporters may be different on this occasion. For several of them legitimacy, restoration of political dialogue and political arena is important, and only in case of Ter-Petrosyan’s victory that prospect becomes possible. It is too early to predict something but the First President acts very self-confidentially, and it is obvious that the opposite party is in panic.
