“Who Told You That Serzh Sargsyan Didn’t Endorse Me?” Bisharyan Says

June 01,2012 19:26

In the pre-election period, Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) leader Serzh Sargsyan urged in Shengavit district to vote not for his loyal coalition partner Rule of Law Party (RLP) deputy chairman Heghine Bisharyan, but for Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) candidate Grigori Margaryan (Grish of Bellagio) in no. 11 electoral district of Yerevan. In this regard, www.aravot.am inquired from Heghine Bisharyan why the RPA treated her like that and didn’t endorse her candidacy. Ms. Bisharyan responded. “Who told you that? Members of all parties endorsed me. You know what, candidates for majoritarian representation, regardless of their party membership, are endorsed by members of all parties. One shouldn’t think so.” In response to our question whether it hadn’t been stated so, Ms. Bisharyan said, “Yes, they stated, but I won rather many votes, which were different from the votes cast for the RLP. This means that members of different parties voted for me. The statement doesn’t matter, it is just a political agreement that has nothing to do with the election. People voted for me. If 12 500 voters voted for Heghine Bisharyan, it means that they are members of different parties, because the RLP didn’t have so many votes so that I may think that all 12 500 were members of the Rule of Law Party. This means that candidates nominated for majoritarian

representation, regardless of their party membership, are elected by the citizens of the given district.”
