Today Ruben Hakobyan, the leader of the Heritage Party parliamentary group, informed during a conversation with www.aravot.am that they would have their own candidate for the mayor of Gyumri, “This issue is being discussed now and the name of the candidate will be known in the short-run.” www.hayeli.am presented an interview with Armen Martirosyan, a member of the Heritage Party, in an article entitled Hereditary Disease. During that interview the latter said that they might not participate in the Gyumri mayoral election at all, there were organizational problems etc. Ruben Hakobyan explained that indefiniteness, “I don’t think it is indefiniteness. It is an ordinary process, discussions are under way inside the party, it is decided whom to announce. Those who perceive it as a disease should probably be concerned about their own health problems, because a political process ends when it is provided for by the law. And the time for announcements has not started and finished yet. Therefore, before the end of that process, every political force has time to make up its mind.”
Ruben Hakobyan stated that they intended to actively participate in the local elections, “The local elections are serious political events and every political force, if it wants to play a role in the state’s internal political life, should necessarily long for self-realization during those processes and naturally, the Heritage Party should actively participate in them too. I think we will witness that in the short-run.”
As for what impact the local elections will have on the presidential election, Mr. Hakobyan stated, “Generally, the local elections ensure a unique rhythm in the political developments during the period between the National Assembly election and the presidential election. They will contribute insofar as a political force can mobilize its forces and seizing the opportunity, let the public know about itself once again that it is active or passive in the internal political life. The public gets information about the political force’s activities and real capabilities by that.”
