Are “Endorsing” a Candidate and “Voting” for a Candidate Different Things for Martun Grigoryan?

January 28,2013 11:14

Martun Grigoryan, a member of the National Assembly and the chairman of the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) Shirak council, had assured during a conversation with www.aravot.am that they would stick to the party’s decision and would not work for any candidate in the upcoming presidential election. However, he later said in an interview given to the First Informational: “I myself, as a voter, taking into account the promise made by the president regarding the town of Gyumri, will vote for Serzh Sargsyan.” www.aravot.am tried to contact Martun Grigoryan to find out what his position was after all, since his two statements contradicted each other. We didn’t manage to contact him; his assistant informed that it was a holiday, and the MP hadn’t come to work.

Instead, his assistant stated during a conversation with us that “voting” for a candidate and “endorsing” a candidate are different things and went into detail: “I think there is much difference between voting and endorsing. To endorse means to organize, to urge everyone, to tell them to vote for the given candidate. However, it is not the case. Martun Grigoryan said that he had one vote, and he would cast that vote for Serzh Sargsyan. I perceived that way, and there have been no separate discussions.”
