Why Raffi Hovhannisyan Threw a Snowball at a Schoolchild From Hrazdan

February 09,2013 11:12

There is an atmosphere of fear in the region of Kotayk

Today a schoolchild was going home with a “Secure Armenia” scarf tied around his neck in Hrazdan. He said that his grandma was a Republican, and all his family will vote for Serzh Sargsyan.

Raffi Hovhannisyan, a candidate for president who was engaged in his “hello” campaign on Hrazdan streets, approached the child and said: “I also want Armenia to be secure, but for you, not for others.” Once he said that, the candidate for president made a snowball and threw it at the child. The child smiled, but didn’t throw a retaliatory snowball at Mr. Hovhannisyan, repeating all the time that they “will vote for Serrrrzh Sargsyan.”

The candidate for president was walking down the streets, saying hello, wishing “deliverance from suffering” to people who were working, cleaning the streets, to the others a good election. Drivers, seeing him from far, would greet him with beeps.

Generally, the atmosphere in Hrazdan was very restrained. Raffi Hovhannisyan would enter an ordinary grocery, and the grocery owner would hide behind the door, in order not to say hello and not to cause problems for himself.

“Someone talked about an endplay recently. The endplay of our people is in our hands. I wish you good luck. Good election, vote freely for whom you want, but vote,” Raffi Hovhannisyan said to old men gathered in the Nor Yerznka club.

He also entered the Yeghvard town hall, where he urged the employees and the mayor: “Leave the people alone for some time. Leave them alone at least this time.”

At the gathering place of Yeghvard old men, at a small club, one of the old men told Raffi Hovhannisyan, once he saw him: “If anyone can do a good thing, it is you.” In response to a question how many votes he would win in their town, the old man said: “Almost 70 percent will vote for Raffi Hovhannisyan. Raffi Hovhannisyan, a pure Armenian, is the only person who cares for the people. An Armenian from Sasun.” When we asked the old man to introduce himself, he got offended. “Why do you want to know my name? Sweetheart, do you want to have me arrested? I have managed to avoid it once. At the previous election, during Kochryan’s presidency, I naively said; they came and asked why I had said that.”
