“Turkish policy is a bluff.”

December 12,2013 15:29

Says Eduard Sharmazanov, Vice-President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia

“Today, Davutoğlu still has a chance to make a few steps if he is truly eager, if, of course, the Turkish policy is not a bluff. Today, he must prove that he is coming here followed by true purposes. Or, this is the regular bluff of the Turkish diplomacy. I think that this is a bluff, however, today, Davutoğlu has the chance to prove the opposite to the international community,” said Eduard Sharmazanov, Vice-President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, in the conversation with “Aravot” speaking of the Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu’s tomorrow’s visit to Armenia.

Recently, the Turkish official had stated that they, Turkey, were ready for everything to make peace in the Caucasus. Commenting on the Turkish official’s statement, our interlocutor said, “The Turkish authorities are not supposed to be ready for everything rather than doing what the international community expects from it. The international community, including the representative of Russia, the U.S., France and all the superpowers, who were present at the signing of protocols without preconditions by intermediaries in Zurich, for Turkey to have the political will and get the benefit of the ball that is in its court.”

Sharmazanov is of the opinion that Turkey should establish relations with Armenia without preconditions, to stop the blockade of Armenia, to stop its policy of denial, to remove the notorious Article 301, “Tomorrow, Mr. Davutoğlu has a very good chance to visit the Genocide Museum and Memorial, apologizing on behalf of his people for committing genocide.” Ultimately, to promote peace, our interlocutor thinks that Turkey should urge its younger brother, Azerbaijan, to realize that the enforcement of force is not acceptable. Also, to recognize Artsakh people’s right to self-determination.

Eduard Sharmazanov also considers important that the Turkish official should realize that the Armenian-Turkish rapprochement process, reopening of the borders should not be associated with the Nagorno-Karabakh’s right to self-determination, because they are two different problems.
