RA President’s Special Envoy for the period of 1992-95, Head of Armenia’s National Security Service for the period of 1994-95, David Shahnazaryan, in the interview with Aravot.am, referring to the fact of dispersing the peaceful protesters of the initiative “No to robbery” against the electricity price hike, harshly condemned the police actions as of yesterday at the Baghramyan Avenue. “The demand of the peaceful protesters was just, it is the demand of all our society. I urge to immediately release all the detainees and the arrested,” noted he. Later on, David Shahnazaryan added, “Basically, Armenia’s government authorities, with their actions, supported the interests of the Russian corrupted system in Armenia. A considerable part of our state’s economy is owned by the Russian state-owned companies, for whom the business interests are not the number one priority, but the political presence and corruption interests, and now, their main task is to squeeze Armenia financially, thereby increasing the emigration.”

David Shahnazaryan is sure that the civic initiatives and movements, in the near future, will obtain a more organized form and the consciousness will matures that we can solve all the problems by reestablishing our independence and sovereignty. “We have a pretty much mature and serious youth to be proud of. These young people that are the generation of the independence should reconquer the sovereignty and independence of our country.”

Shahnazaryan believes that the event happened are the result of the political choice made by the authorities, as a result, Armenia joined the Russian-led Eurasian Economic Union. “It is obvious that the comprehensive solution are not ever-deepening social and economic problems, but, first of all, foreign and domestic policy challenges arising from it. By their actions, the authorities further deepened Armenia’s status as a country joining the Eurasian Economic Union, they further detached Armenian from the civilized world and created new and very serious obstacles in our relations with the EU, European countries and international structures.”
