What “threat” can ARF be for Hovik Abrahamyan?

February 19,2016 15:00

Artsvik Minasyan explains

“Our access to the power is not against a person and to create a conflict with a person but to make real changes in the country. Any person who will stand against these reforms – to the establishment of free economic competition, to the anti-corruption policy, to the establishment of democratic values in the country, to ensuring economic growth, we can always have a conflict with him,” said ARF faction member Artsvik Minasyan, yesterday, in an interview with “Aravot”. The point is that since the announcement of the negotiations for RPA-ARF cooperation, there were various interpretations and analyzes in the press on why Serzh Sargsyan now needs involving ARF into the coalition.

The main question was as follows: how ARF Ministers are going to work with the Prime Minister. No matter how the Republican Party and the ARF members declare that they do not care about the positions or it is not primary for them, however, cooperation does not mean also responsibility in certain areas. While responsibility without specific commitments, naturally, does not exist. Assuming commitments, to say it in a more popular way, is taking an office. But the question should be considered in another dimension too.

David Lokyan and Hovik Abrahamyan were in the same team since the 2000s, they have passed long way together, they have even established a godfather – godchild relationship, which is still maintained. With Hovik Abrahamyan’s direct and indirect godfather status, David Lokyan’s son is holding various positions in the government system. Currently, he is the Prime Minister’s advisor. Specifically now, he is giving advice to the Prime Minister. As to what advice he gives or to what extent they are appropriate, it’s another question but Lokyans and Abrahamyans families’ godfather – godchild relationship does not suffer from it.  Artsvik Minasyan has always criticized the government’s activities at the parliament but there were not a few cases when his criticism was beginning with, “Respectful, dear government”.

In the years of his political activity, especially in multiple ministerial past, Levon Mkrtchyan has had no strained relationship with his supervisor, he has long worked in one cabinet with Hovik Abrahamyan. He perhaps is in favor of solving the questions in a soft manner. Now, too, it seems that there are no preconditions to deviate from this regularity.
