During the third conference of Armenian parties, held on June 16-18 in Stepanakert, former President of the Artsakh parliament, a member of “Free Homeland” party Arthur Tovmasyan addressed a question, “Had any of the Minsk Group co-chairs been aware that a war would start on April 2?”.
In response, former head of the State National Security Department David Shahnazaryan announced, “At least one of the co-chairs had been aware”. He added, that one of our neighboring countries had also been aware, which had warned us about the accumulations.
Former NA deputy Tevan Poghosyan and former Defence Minister Vagharshak Harutiunyan considered the problem from another angle, that the most important is not what state knew about it or not, but that we did not know and did not prevent it.
“It’s our war, so we had to know”, said Vagharshak Harutiunyan, and viewed some resignations in Defence system, particularly ones of the heads of intelligence, and communications departments, as a reason for unawareness.
According to the former Defence Minister armed forces of the enemy have performed “more than diversionary activities and less than war” scale actions, therefore, our intelligence could not uncover.
