Famous Turkish journalist Hasan Jemal, the grandson of Jemal Pasha, who carried out the Armenian Genocide, has been sentenced to 1 years and 6 months of imprisonment for “propagating in favor of a terrorist organization”.
The reason of the punishment was the series of articles entitled “Calendar Retreat” published by Jemal on one of the Turkish websites on May 15, 2013, where Jemal Pasha’s grandson referred to “Kurdistan Workers’ Party” (PKK), regarded to be a terrorist organization in Turkey. Pursuant to the imputation, he has appraised one of PKK leaders.
Court proceedings were initiated in the aforementioned case in 2017, but the Turkish court had delayed Jemal’s punishment. However, during the 2nd proceedings at Istanbul Court on Hasan Jemal’s case, the prosecutor has demanded to apply the punishment. It is mentioned that Jemal has not been present in the court proceedings.
