The President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin calls on the political actors, who wish to see the Ukraine and Georgia in the membership of NATO, to think of the consequences of that decision. Putin’s words are referenced by “RIA Novosti”.
“We will give respective response to such aggressive steps, which are a direct threat to Russia. They make an attempt of including our partners, who go for escalation, for example, Georgia and Ukraine are better to think of the possible consequences of such irresponsible policy in the military orbit of the alliance as well,” said Putin in the meeting with the foreign ambassadors.
Putin has noticed that the basis of the security in Europe is the development of cooperation and trust. According to him, allocation of new military bases neighboring Russian borders by NATO does not contribute to the restoration of trustful relations.
Earlier NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg had announced that Georgia would become a NATO member.
