After the controversy surrounding the recordings that were published online, NSS head Artur Vanetsyan held a press conference, stating that it was strange that they were recorded. A detailed investigation will take place and it will become clear who recorded them. A case has been opened in the Prosecutor General’s office regarding this.
Regarding the conversation, Vanetsyan said that the conversation took place on the day a decision was reached regarding Kocharyan’s case. They wanted to be assured that there was no mistake in the case. “It was simply a legal discussion. I received a letter of an expert’s opinion, where there was an issue regarding explanations in connection to the basis of the case. I sent the message to Mr. Khachatryan.”
Vanetsyan said that he was not in Russia at the time of the conversation, but instead in Geneva. He had been on his way to the airport and was speaking on his VivaCell number. “The money that has been robbed from Armenia will be returned, and the murderers will stand in court. That process is unavoidable,” Vanetsyan announced.
When asked if it is possible that he present a resignation letter before the investigation is over, Vanetsyan and the head of the SIS, Sasun Khachatryan, answered that if there will be a public demand for it, they will. They will not cling to their positions.
