General Prosecution denies allegations on pressuring ex-police chief before death

September 24,2019 17:01

ARMENPRESS. Prosecutor General Artur Davtyan’s advisor Gor Abrahamyan has released a statement emphasizing that the prosecution will work with special coherency in revealing the true circumstances surrounding former police chief Hayk Harutyunyan’s death.

Abrahamyan has also denied media rumors which alleged that before his death Harutyunyan has told several witnesses that Davtyan has pressured him to make false testimonies.

“It turns out that lowness and immorality have no limits in the case of individual media outlets in our reality,” he said in the statement.

“Literally minutes after the first media reports on former police chief Hayk Harutyunyan’s death, these media outlets have allowed themselves to even use the “blood” of a deceased person for low political and propaganda goals. In conditions of Hayk Harutyunyan’s death circumstances not having been revealed yet and the criminal case being initiated newly, ideas have been attributed to him by cynically proceeding from the fact that he can never deny or confirm them.

Nevertheless, I find it noteworthy to emphasize that the Prosecutor General has never, in no way had any contacts with Hayk Harutyunyan. Second, as part of the criminal case at this moment there hasn’t been any information regarding any witness making any such statements or claims.

The fact that such false and immoral information is being spread by the very media outlets which have a concrete propaganda objective in an attempt to defame with such low methods the heads of criminal prosecution bodies is strange and highly noteworthy.

Taking into account the fact that Hayk Harutyunyan was one of the key witnesses in a highly important and publicly resonating criminal case, the prosecution will display special coherency in revealing the true circumstances and motives of his death,” he said.
