December 06,2020 14:08

WASHINGTON, DC –The Armenian Assembly of America, the largest, non-partisan Armenian-American advocacy organization in the United States, welcomed the news that an amendment by Turkish and Azerbaijani Caucus Co-Chair Steve Chabot (R-OH) was removed from the final version of the Fiscal Year 2021 (FY2021) National Defense Authorization Act.

Executive Director Bryan Ardouny released the following statement on behalf of the Armenian Assembly of America:

“The Armenian Assembly strongly opposed this Azerbaijan Laundromat lobbyist-inspired amendment, and we are pleased that Congress has seen fit to strike this nefarious language from the final version of the National Defense Authorization Act for FY2021.

We’d like to thank Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman James Inhofe (R-OK) and Ranking Member Jack Reed (D-RI), as well as their House counterparts Chairman Adam Smith (D-WA) and Ranking Member Mac Thornberry (R-TX), and especially Representative Jackie Speier (D-CA), a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee, who spearheaded a letter in opposition to the Chabot amendment.”

Established in 1972, the Armenian Assembly of America is the largest Washington-based nationwide organization promoting public understanding and awareness of Armenian issues. The Assembly is a non-partisan, 501(c)(3) tax-exempt membership organization.
