As a result of the war unleashed by Azerbaijan on September 27th, Heriknaz and her family left Artsakh and stayed temporarily in the Gandzakar village of Tavush.
“When the war began on September 27th, we went to our bunkers thinking that it would all be over soon and we will return to our home. However, our village leader came and told us that we needed to leave our village. We reached Vardenis, and then we came to Gandzakar,” Heriknaz said.
According to her, the home in which they currently live was given to her temporarily by her relative, but the 10-person family is having difficulties in a two-room apartment. “My father and mother are staying in one room, my brother and his wife are in the other, while I and my children are staying in the basement.”
Heriknaz said that they were told in the beginning that their village would be transferred to the enemy. After they removed all of their belongings, they burned their house down. But then it became clear that the village would not be transferred. Now, the family’s situation is uncertain.
Heriknaz moved to Artsakh in 1995 due to the fact that she did not have a home in Hrazdan, but she does not have any intention of returning after this war.
“Around 20 homes will be rebuilt in our village of Charektar so that anyone who wishes can return. But we are not even thinking of returning. We hope that we will be given a house in any village of Armenia so that we can live comfortably.”
