Several homes in the Mets Tagher village of Hadrut, Artsakh were raised to the ground by Azerbaijani occupiers. In addition, the village’s cemetery was destroyed and vandalized. The residents were not able to move their relatives’ bodies. A resident of Mets Tagher (not to be confused with Hin Tagher), Armine Gasparyan, informed Aravot Daily of what happened. She said that it has been approximately a month, and no one was able to go and at least bring back the bodies of soldiers who died during the war from the cemetery.
“A group of people went to bring back the bodies with the mediation of the Red Cross and Russian peacekeepers. They brought back the bodies a few days ago, and three soldiers were buried at Yerablur. The men saw that the graves were destroyed. In one case, the lid of a casket was all scratched up. The Azerbaijanis destroyed all of that… They are constructing a road, which, I must stress, will pass near the cemetery. The cemetery did not affect the construction of the road. They simply thought that people shouldn’t have to see Armenians’ graves when they travel along the road. Besides that, they are acting in such a way to have an impact on us. We have had graves there since the 1800s, which they have destroyed and razed to the ground. They removed the gravestones and threw them into the canyons. The group was unable to exhume one of the soldiers. If the group was late by even a day, they would not have been able to remove the three soldiers’ bodies,” Armine said.
She added, “There were 23 deaths and 9 prisoners from Mets Tagher. At the moment, 3 or 4 people’s bodies have not been found. Sixteen people are buried at Yerablur, of which three were exhumed. At the beginning of the war, several soldiers were buried at the cemetery, but when the Azerbaijanis captured the village, the burials took place at Yerablur.”
Regarding the road, she said that it is currently under construction. “The road will lead to Shushi. They just constructed it. They destroyed and razed many homes to the ground in the village.”
