‘Either the official language of Artsakh will be Azerbaijani without Armenian, or it will be Armenian and Russian’: Edmon Marukyan

February 17,2021 15:15

The head of the Bright Armenia faction, Edmon Marukyan, said during a briefing that there are many unanswered questions about the war.

After watching the second portion of Serzh Sargsyan’s interview, Marukyan became convinced that it is necessary to establish a parity committee. People do not understand how the war began and how this chaos developed. “Did they purchase 1,000 UAVs or not? Were they used or not? There are many questions.”

When asked whether he believes Serzh Sargsyan or Nikol Pashinyan, Marukyan said, “I believe in God. This needs to be investigated. I have never supported digging up Armenia’s past, and after the revolution, I always said that we should speak of the future so that we can build a great country. If the country was corrupt, that means we shouldn’t be corrupt, but they always took us back to the past. Now they’re saying that they negotiated and didn’t give away our lands. Did you negotiate to give them away? They should have given the lands up. They didn’t, which is why we are where we are today. We need to discuss what happened today, learn our lesson, and move forward. If we do not have a consensus from the opposition- some people are saying that Nikol should leave and then we will investigate, others are saying that Artsakh should also be involved. We keep getting off topic.”

Marukyan believes that Serzh Sargsyan was wrong when he said that Azerbaijan asked to end the April War. “If Azerbaijan did that, we should have been the ones to capture 800 hectares of their land.”

Regarding the bill according to which the second official language of Artsakh will be Russian, Marukyan said that he thinks it is normal. “Either the official language of Artsakh will be Azerbaijani without Armenian, or it will be Armenian and Russian, which there is a large contingent of. Now, we want that contingent to maintain peace and security for us, but nothing should be in their language? Is that fair?” Marukyan said that self-government has nothing to do with languages. Switzerland has 8 official languages, but it is a sovereign nation.
