Why did Yerevan not respond to the statement of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, was such a statement expected from a strategic ally? Let’s remind that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, speaking in an interview on the “Russia 24” TV channel about why the CSTO countries did not unequivocally condemn Azerbaijan’s aggressive actions in September 2022, stated: “The history of this Karabakh war comes from the depth of decades, and when Armenia occupied the seven regions around Azerbaijan for many years, and then when it was desperate to resolve the issue politically, Russia offered many options, which the former authorities of Armenia did not accept very well, positively, did not accept, wanting to keep the territories to which had never claimed. Therefore, Azerbaijan has returned the lands that belong to it.”
Alen Simonyan answered the question: CSTO has announced they are ready to send a mission to Armenia if requested. “I am not sure that this possibility exists because, as it was said in the same interview, many different countries in that organization have their own interests, and I am not sure that one of them will not veto. I don’t know more details because we were not told. The head of one of the CSTO member states expressed his opinion regarding Azerbaijan and Aliyev; I don’t know what has changed.
