Responding to Aravot.am’s question about what steps the Czech Republic is taking to unblock the Berdzor Corridor and influence Azerbaijan in this regard, the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to Armenia Petr Piruncik stated the following: “The Czech Republic works with other EU countries in coordinated close cooperation. We are following the developments. The situation is dire. There is a consensus in the EU that the transport routes should be brought into working condition, and supplies should be restored. Several positive steps have already been taken in that direction. We continue talking with Azerbaijan at the Czech Republic and the EU level.”
The Ambassador added, “In this context, I want to mention something. The EU, of which the Czech Republic is an active member, has been involved in mediation negotiations between the highest representatives of Armenia and Azerbaijan for a long time. Several negotiations have already taken place with the mediation of CE President Charles Michel, and not unsuccessfully. We believe that lasting peace can only be achieved through direct negotiations and agreements between the two countries. Armenia and the entire region certainly deserve peace and tranquility.”
