We observe the EU Civilian Observation Mission as a key factor restricting the aggressive ambitions of Azerbaijan in the region-Hripsime Grigoryan

Your support on both Friendship Group and inter-parliamentary platforms to the voiced problems of Armenia is not possible to underestimate, beginning from the statements of the Group members up to the statements in written form initiated in Parliamentary Assemblies: the Head of the NA Armenia-Sweden Friendship Group Hripsime Grigoryan said during the meeting with the representatives of Sweden-Armenia Friendship Group.

Hripsime Grigoryan noted that Sweden as a EU member and at present as a country holding presidency, is an important partner for Armenia. The Head of the Friendship Group also highlighted the deployment of the EU Civilian Observation Mission. “We observe the Mission as a key factor restricting the aggressive ambitions of Azerbaijan in the region,” she said.

The Head of Sweden-Armenia Friendship Group Björn Söder highlighted the development of parliamentary cooperation and expressed hope that in the near future the bilateral relations will be more expanded and developed.

The member of Armenia-Sweden Friendship Group, the Chair of the NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs Taguhi Tovmasyan emphasized the deployment of the EU Civilian Observation Mission in Armenia and noted that the availability of such Mission in Artsakh is also necessary. “It will give an opportunity to get acquainted with the problems and to see the situation,” she said. The MP considered of priority the recognition of the right to self-determination of the Artsakh Armenians. The Committee Chair also touched upon the importance of the study of the progressive experience of Sweden in the development of the expertise potential.

The member of the Friendship Group Zaruhi Batoyan emphasized the further cooperation and the exchange of experience, particularly, the legislative regulations on the women’s economic activeness, social sphere, as well as the right of the children to living in family.

The member of the Friendship Group Irina Gasparyan, speaking about the rights of the national minorities in Armenia, noted that the representatives of the national minorities in our country have an opportunity to study their mother tongue in some state schools.

The member of Armenia-Sweden Friendship Group Lilit Stepanyan referred to the security problems of Armenia, underscoring the hard situation of the residents on the border communities. She reflected upon the right to self-determination of the Armenian population of Nagorno Karabakh and inquired about the reason of the EU countries not imposing sanctions against Azerbaijan.

The Chair of the NA Standing Committee on Financial-Credit and Budgetary Affairs, the member of the Friendship Group Gevorg Papoyan spoke about the UN programmes implemented by Sweden in Armenia. He attached importance to the exchange of experience in a number of spheres.

The Member of the Swedish Parliament, Armenian by origin Arin Karapet, stressing the parliamentary cooperation with Armenia, proposed the attendees to revise a scope of joint works for voicng the problems of Armenia in the international parliamentary structures and finding solutions.

The sides spotlighted the necessity of the development of the parliamentary ties and proposed to make the cooperation of the friendship groups substantial.
